the mockingbirds are agitated

Poor mockingbirds. I heard a ruckus this afternoon and went outside to see what was going on. There was a hawk or falcon, I'm not sure which yet, sitting on the makeshift ladder leading up the bank of our backyard. Two furious mockingbirds were darting directly at the hawk. When it saw me, it took off and that's when I noticed the big fluffy chick in its talons. Such are the ways of nature, I know, but the damned mockingbirds won't shut up. They're all over the place calling for the chick, or a warning call, or something. As soon as I find my bird book I'll post links.
